Hey guys! My name is botsonik in game. You can call me bot.
Pete promoted me to admin last night to help with the hackers late at night. I registered on the forum, but it is pending approval.
I've learned that the commands for admin are almost identical to many Rust and Minecraft server plugin commands. Also, the most frequent player issues are similar. Mainly hackers, griefers, and honest players complaining about them.
Here's a few issues I'd like to share:
We made a nice little house last night before I got off. There were a few chests in it. When I came back on, all the doors were open and the chests were gone. I remember Pete saying griefing isn't allowed, unless I misunderstood. If not, then what tools do we have to enforce and prevent it? Is there a way to see who destroyed our chests or if that even happened?
- Server restarts and world saves
The server restarts every hour, which is typically a good thing. In this case, the server rarely saves immediately before a restart. I haven't timed it, but the world saves every 10-15 minutes. That being said, some people may lose 10-15 minutes of experience, building, farming, etc., after a restart. I've had this issue when I initially started running MC and Rust servers. To prevent this, I implemented a few things. First, force a save before every restart. Before that, announce the restart at least once at 2 minutes before it happens.
Items on the ground will vanish when a world save happens. This happened to me when trying to pick up my loot after dying and then avenging my death. Can there be at least a one minute warning for this? I had a plugin on my Minecraft servers that did this. It warned, and then cleaned up the ground.
Those are the main issues I've had so far. If those can be addressed, I think your regular player base would have a much better time. Thanks for the server, and to Pete for battling that hacker yesterday. That was epic. See you guys in game, peace.

Thanks for the server, and to Pete for battling that hacker yesterday. That was epic. See you guys in game, peace. To answer your questions per your order: 1.) Griefing isn't allowed, people need to understand they are joining a PVP server, and PVP will happen. If you don't want to die, join a PVE server. With that said, if a griefer continues to whine and cry, you must deal with it accordingly. I trust all admins sense of judgement in this case to deal with it as you'd like. I would suggest starting with a verbal warning telling them to stop. If they continue you can kick, if that fails, ban. Im sorry but this is a game and shouldn't be taken so seriously. Things happen, you die, you lose your stuff, you find stuff, and you keep going. Again if you want to play without dying go on a PVE server. I strongly suggest joining/forming groups like others do and basically act as a unit. This is a survival game after all, and if you die then too bad. I don't go around shooting people randomly, and I don't care if you do. I do care, however, for hackers. This is a ZERO tolerance server. Regardless of the situation, you hack you get banned. It causes server issues, its not fair and I wont have it. I allow admins to use a hack tool in order to catch other hackers, any abuse of this RIGHT that I am allowing will be met with a strip of admin/mod privileges, and or a ban from me. I give everyone a fair shot at rejoining our server and everyone to call out an act of abuse, thats why we have those sections on the forum. As of right now I have yet to see any major griefing that would prompt even a kick, nor have I seen any abuse of power. 2.) No there is no way to retrieve the info on who destroyed what, the game has no code setup for structure destruction, nor who did what. Typically if an entire structure is gone, it is the work of a hacker using SinHack to remove them from the registry as if they never existed. Sadly too much info is stored client side on this game and not server side where it should be to allow me to get backup save logs and restore the structures. There is a save before all restarts, sadly again due to the game's coding not always does it save and start from that restore point. It seems closer to about 5 minutes before a save do things become restored. There is an announcement code in play for restarts that is supposed to display 5 min prior to restarting, sadly it worked for about 3 days and any attempts at restoring the feature have proved worthless or caused severe issues. 3.) the items on the ground disappearing is supposed to happen, it cleans up the server, having too much stuff in a small area (much like in any other game engine) causes lag, this is installed to ensure that doesn't happen and sadly the amount of plugins for this game is not large enough as v 2.x.x (this is the version we play on) is technically an open beta, a real release of this game was supposed to be in steam WEEKS ago, but it seems as though only a semi closed beta is available. None of us like V 3.x thus why we have yet to migrate to that version yet. Supposedly when the release of the full game comes it will allow us to still play v 2.x.x but with the added benefits of VAC, more serverside storage, less hacks, and I'm sure MANY more server options. As of right now the scripting of this game is quite difficult without a source code to allow us to do so, the people that add mods do so publicly and for free on unturned-forums, still yet steam does small patches on the game without anyone knowing (most recently it was the added support of steam friends via Shift + Tab). When these patches come they mess up plugins that are currently in play, making it a losing battle to try and modify any of them to continue to work. With all of that said, I welcome any ideas you all (that goes for anyone) may have for fixing any issues that you see. Sadly hot fixes and file downloads from the forum don't really seem to help. On a side note I am working on a way to keep the server up at night/early morning when no one can be on and it gets that infamous "pure virtual" error that requires me to physically click "OK" before the old Unturned.exe terminates prompting a new one to open up via the server manager we have. I think I have worked out a way to Piggyback it with another program that will terminate the old program following a crash and allow the server manager to relaunch the server immediately after noticing the old program has terminated.

Thanks, Pete!
I understand the issues with plugins conflicting, and the difficult scripting. I've had the same problems with Rust, and I appreciate the effort.
To anyone else reading this, Pete and I had to figure out what we both meant by "Griefing", hehe.
If you're coming from Minecraft, Rust, or Terarria, then this server allows griefing. It's a hardcore survival server with no protection, except from hackers. Pete's definition of griefing means being a whiny little prick that can't take dying, and taking it out on everyone by excessively harassing others.
He also said that it is okay to destroy stuff, like doors and chests, but only if you have intentions of using the things inside. Capture a fort, loot a chest, etc... Don't destroy a whole fort just to be a prick. I very much agree with this.
